Gender and expletives as discourse markers: Some uses of joder in young women’s interactions in Spanish and Galician

This paper approaches young women’s speaking style by analysing the ways in which interjection joder is employed interactions Spanish and Galician among females. The analysis identifies several uses of this form at interactional discursive level: reinforcement speech acts, marker disagreement, complaints, expression minimal emotional assessments, correcting stalling. It concluded that has developed multiple functions interaction as a marker, contrast to arguments against inclusion interjections pragmatic category. findings also suggest expletive fulfils sociolinguistic function ‘young femininities’, since it demonstrates how been integrated into style, traditional gender rules broader descriptions ‘women’s talk’ Language Gender studies.
